New strap for my Seagull

Here are both of my Seagull 63s. On the left is the standard '63 FKJB, and the '62 Plan B on the right. They both came with the standard khaki NATO, and a decent Seagull dark brown leather strap.

The Plan B has never worn either of these, it's always been on this Rios Inzell Organic Leather, in a gorgeous colour, Cognac. It's by far my favourite strap on any watch. It's super soft, supple and flexible. I don't know how it's finished, it's not waxy, but it doesn't stick on a hot UK day and I can't ask for more than that. When you get a strap like this you want to put everything on it.

Meanwhile the standard '63 was on the Seagull strap. Slim, comfortable, solid and of decent quality. But somewhat dull, and the dark strap didn't really pair well with the dial. (As an aside, it's on a 17.5 strap. I tried using an 18 spring bar, and it doesn't go.)

Because I didn't gel with this pairing, I think I wore this watch ¼ as much as the Plan B. Tell me if that isn't proof of the difference the right strap can make.

So I decided to change it to this light brown elk leather, soft with a waxed finish from GUL in Sweden. I'm impressed. This is also supple and flexible, and although it's not on the same level as the Rios, I'm more than happy with the new look, and happy to try a new leather. I'm probably going to pick up a couple more - you can never have too many straps!

I'll be damned!

As you may know, "elk" refers to a different animal in European and American English, so I had to go look up which one you meant. Actually quite surprising! The red deer is often commercially farmed in my part of the world, but the moose is not. This stuff would be quite difficult to legally acquire here.

Every day I learn something new on here! 👍
