Should I wear my pocket watch to work?

I’m just waiting for the lanyard for my new 992b. but when I do get it, I need the opinions of you lot to help sway my decision one way or another. I work at a thrift store (twice a week at the moment). I realized it’s not a super active job. But it does have potential for some bumps in the pocket while moving, or some minor shock from doing things with my leg. I would love to use my 992b as an edc. And I intend to at the very least use it when not working. But I’m a little bit nervous to take it out for the day, let alone bring it to work. So the question is… should I take it to work with me (once I have the lanyard for it), and why or why not? Also if there are any of you folk who edc a pocket watch. I’m curious what you do for work, and how rough it gets treated on a daily basis Cheers all 🍻

There is more than one way to wear one, so this is a factor. Well, carry. I wore one to work last week in the most inconspicuous way possible, just hooking the chain to belt or loop and literally dropping into a trouser front pocket.

Like any vintage watch, the normal human motion shouldn't be an issue. The body is a suspension blocking true impact jolts.

Magnetism may be a concern. Keep a fair distance from cell phone and other electronics. This seems to not be a hunter case, so the crystal will likely be the Achille's heel. But that should be replaceable should it ultimately get damaged, cosmetically or more catastrophically. You might want to check on that beforehand for peace of mind, but I'm pretty sure that it's cheap, easy, and available.

For sure, I always keep my watches of any kind far away from any devices on my person. Also the total units made for this type of watch were around 686,000, while the run quantity for this was 42,600. So parts I believe should be pretty plentiful. Also, I’m the same, around the belt loop and in my pants pocket is my favourite way to go. I was just worried about walking by something and bumping my leg pocket into it. But in the end these things were made to be used. I just need to try my best to get up a little courage, and do what will make me happy

For me when thinking about things like this, the main thing I try to take into account is "how much of a difference would I have to change the way I normally do things to make my mind feel at ease". For example in this case if you would need to be actively thinking of avoiding things like where you're walking and how far away you are from devices to give you peace of mind, then it may not be worth it. However if these are just natural thoughts you have during the day and your mind can be at ease then why not, go for it. Whichever you choose, I hope you have a good time interacting with your lovely pocket watch

Thanks for the comment. That’s some really good insight. Well honestly I am definitely in category 2. I’m constantly worried about hundreds of things throughout my day. So I suppose it would probably be worth at the very least the old collage try

I wear my pocket watch daily. Nobody notices, nobody cares.
