Ocean 39 SR Plexi! Yet another homage? Who cares, just can't take my eyes off it...
Just couldn't resist another homage from Steinhart. Yes it take design cues from various references! It's fitted with Mercedes hands! It has " Gnomon" printed on the dial! Who cares. There are just as many elements to admire such as the sapphire bezel which mimics bakelite, the double domed acrylic crystal, the case without crown guards, the satin finish on the bezel knurling. This watch is a testament of Steinhart and Gnomon who believes in providing watches with strong value proposition. The watch simply gives me happy vibes. 😀

I think it's a fun looking watch and just ordered one for myself. I like how the red "Gnomon" text matches the red triangle at the 12 oclock bezel color. Also the "Gnomon" text is kinda a play on vintage Rolex and how they had Tiffany & Co on the dial for their collaboration. I like the sapphire bezel, yes odd choice with mix and match materials of crystal and bezel, but it looks good and polishing an acrylic bezel would be harder IMO than polishing a large round crystal. Also, sourcing an acrylic bezel is harder, and they already have plexi crystals from previous models. The satin brushed bezel surround is something I wish they did with all the other models as well. I don't buy the 100m WR. I'm sure it's 300m like the others, it uses the same case, caseback, crown, gaskets, etc. Only difference is the crystal, and acrylic is favored for diving for it's elastic properties and I think printing 100m on the dial looks more true to the vintage decades style. All in all looking forward to receiving mine and immediately placing it on a brown or gray sail cloth or perlon.
