Marathon GPM Government Reissue Mechanical - A Fine Specimen of GG-W-113

Character and DNA

The purpose built watch has lines and finishing to minimize reflection. The gun mental finish is something i adore. 20 metres away and you will be able to recognise this field watch reinterpretation. I was skeptical on how the fit but its seems to seat well on my 7" wrist.

Function

The hand wound movement works fine for me. Bringing it to life when its in rotation reminds me the essence of owing a mechanical watch. The tritium and maraglo combination is perfect for night vision with its subtle glow. I am also surprised how comfortable the ballistic nylon is despite the 16mm width. I wished the watch would have been water resistant to 100m, that would have been the GADA watch for me :(

Finishing

In line with Mr Wein's dedication to supplying dependable / life saving timing instruments. The watches are manufactured in La Chaux De Fonds, the heart of Swiss watch making. One will only appreciate the attention to detail only after you strap it on and doing countless wrist checks with it...

I am delighted to have taken the plunge on this timeless field watch. For a small token i got to own a piece of mechanical watch history that I rotate more then i should have 😀

I love the flowing lines of the case.

I too wish they'd up the wr on their field models, but I do have more faith in their wr, comparing across equal ratings, than most brands with less serious design philosophies. I wouldn't swim with one of their field watches, but I don't think I'd stress about normal, everyday water exposure. I already own three of their watches, so I figure it's probably only a matter of time before I pick up one of their general purpose models.

Love my #marathon as well. However I quickly replaced the stock strap... They do offer a better strap option at checkout, but I didn't think it was going to be that bad.

(In my opinion it felt flimsy and scratchy).

A great piece. I bought one for my step father last year and sent a few straps with it. He loves the watch. My GSAR might have another Marathon next to it in the coming months.

I had similar issues with my Bertucci A-4T. The strap is ridiculously stiff and the stitching irritates. I'm hoping it'll break in at some point as 26mm straps aren't easy the find.

Before we nitpick on the WR of the watch. Just remember that marathon watches are made for several military/law enforcement agencies around the world for real world use. If 50M is good enough for military spec then it can withstand daily use.

Beautiful watch by the way, if I didn't have my MSAR I'd pick this one up, but I do love Marathon and their no nonsense designs.

I love Marathon watches, but I'll never buy a GPM/GPQ until they update it to a 20mm lug width.

Until then I'll console myself with my SSNav, Nav, and GSAR... 😂
