Annoyed by Fake Limited Editions like Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein?

Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that Louis Erard keeps teasing us with 178-piece limited editions but then churns them out again and again as if the last time it wasn't them? I mean, is it a limited edition or not? Can you make up your mind? Coz it feels like you're screwing us all!

And what's with Alain Silberstein? Come on man, we understand that the motherland needs money but you started doing this sht long before Oct 7, 2023! Seems like you're ready to lend your name to everyone including Bud Light and Targer. Vianny Halter did it the OG way (and his collab is impossible to get while yours are losing value like a week year old sushi); even that error 404 guy did it nicely, but you just killed your legacy and turned it into a money grab! Shame on you!

For context, what I mean here is the 5th collaboration of Alain Silberstein that I can think of, 4 out of which are with Loius Erard... all 4 collabs were released as a 178-piece limited edition, with each release containing 2 or 3 models with slightly different variations - reguleteur, day-date, chrono, now tourb.

And to make things worse, in order to buy the one thing that is actually maybe, MAYBE worth buying, I mean the tourb of course, they want you to buy the whole set which by the way went up in price despite being tremendously overpriced to begin with....

Many brands are guilty of this. Seiko did it with their 21 European release, essentially killing the previous “limited” version. I think they put them out int he market to test the waters, then release an “open”edition later on. Happens in art world too. Most get burnt once then start to ignore the brand, or simply wait for the open edition.

Fool me once, shame on them. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I don't even look in their direction if they re going to keep pulling stunts like that

I stopped... after collabs 3-4 which kind of occurred close to each other timewise (AS+LE and AS+Bell&Ross). The first one was a limited run to a Japanese boutique or something. Then they did the main release and I thought it was my lucky draw! Except it was not.

And the only reason I kept checking on them was because I had one for sale (originally purchased 2 at the advice of Moshe, my grey dealer) and needed to know where the prices were at any given time.

When I first got into this hobby, I was so ignorantly impressed with anything stamped “limited edition” but now, I hear the words and immediately become leery. Looking at you, Seiko, and the current Bruce Lee LE at 15k 🤦‍♂️

the buggers are creeping up the prices too. like la semaine model they jacked up from 3500 (in 2021) to 4000 (now) CHF for the same model, just a different color, and over 10% on a 3.5k watch is a lot for just the dial color, isn't it?

Bruce Lee LE? Really? LMAO

Cartier, where is my Chuck Norris Tank LE watch with roman numerals?

I agree that not really limited editions are annoying, but seiko's 15k production run LEs are more ridiculous. I'm all for this drop because I think it's the nicest one out of all them and finally one that I want!

The thing is, I really pay no attn to LEs. I only come upon them if the watch I want happens to be a limited edition. Otherwise, I don't give a rat's ... Actually, there is this dealer Alex something (including on Fcbk) that feels a lot like he just started dealing watches when everyone was locked down for covid. He must have just maxed out his supply of masks and was now onto the next hot commodity... Anyhow, he had this watch I was gunning after (actually just yesterday I eventually ended up acquiring that watch) and when I inquired about it he immediately claimed it was NOS (he must have already learned the magic term that gives most of us a bigger boner than Mr./Mrs. _________ pick a celeb of your desire) and LE. I asked what limited edition because this watch was quite a limited-run production. He said it was commemorating some Scarborough battle... I know, don't ask WTF!!!! Make long story short, I went to Zenith customer care inquiring about the kosherness and limitedness of this release. Scarborough Battle watch was not exactly a 165 anniversary Zenith LE if you know what I mean. Oh and, the blessed Zenith Customer Relations made me wait for "a response from the correct department" for so long that Alex the flipper actually sold the watch!!! And it took me almost 2 years and 3 new additions to my collection to get my hands on it (albeit non-limited) again. Funny, but this time again, I sent the inquiry to Zenith Customer Relations but this time asking about metal qualities of a certain alloy used in the watch. Guess what? I am still awaiting Zenith's answer. But I learned from the previous mistake and didn't wait for the reply. The watch is at home )))

15K is not a limited edition. it's a marketing move aimed at idiots... I'm sorry... Sir, here is out limited edition McDonald's toy LOL Thank you Ma'am....

I see you're with the green fad and clueless about the design school of Bauhaus LOL Green doesn't fit the color scheme from color theory standpoint... Red Yellow and Blue are primary colors and that's why they work so well together... My fav was the black case version of the very 1st release with manual movement. Everything else is one step down at a time with that white dial release being at the bottom of the barrel for me

·

Funny how they set the limit at the total number they think can be sold.

But now you've got me thinking a bud light and target collab. Maybe swatch can step in?

·

Marketing hype. I don’t fall for it anymore. But I did on a couple.
