Not a fan of the new dial lay out at all. The only one that looks reasonably attractive to me is the white dial version because it hides the massive chapter ring. I love that they finally upgraded the clasp and I love the no date look. Its a bummer they haven’t upgraded the movement with better power reserve, B-20 movements with 70 hour power reserve in the SO Heritage line, why not the SO?
Those are all awesome! I think pocket watches are the best hidden treasures in watches currently. So many big name manufactures for fractions of the wrist watch prices. I’ve been eyeballing A. Lange & Söhne pocket watches for a while because they’re so affordable compared to the wrist watch alternatives. I’ve been thinking about getting a pocket watch movement and a conversion case, yours look great!
The Bayport looks very interesting, but still kind of homage-esq in my opinion. I like my Southhold and it’s brought up pretty interesting conversations with a couple of my watch buddies. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Marc has in the pipeline!
I’ve got two! Both are pretty nice, decent bracelets, reliable movements and good value. The first one I bought was the ISL-79 which has a Panerai-esq case style and has a bunch of SKX parts, so it’s easy to mod if you’re into that. I recently picked up the Southold and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments. It’s a good size for me and looks great. I also bought one of their bracelets for my Samurai since it came factory on rubber. Their Bracelets have solid end links and aren’t rattle-y like factory seiko bracelets.
One of my first watch purchases, a Seiko 5. They are praised on the internet and I thought that they had to be great, regardless of how inexpensive they are. From the second I took it out of the box I started realizing I wasted $100. The bracelet was absolutely laughable. I didn’t find any “charm” in having to shake the watch to get it running, I can‘t understand why any mechanical watch wouldn’t have hand winding. And the biggest problem was the 38mm case width looked ridiculous on my wrists. That being said, all of those problems are “me problems”. I gave it to an employee of mine along with a NATO and a sailcloth band I had bought for it and it looks great on him and does everything he would ever need it to do. I’m glad it was a cheap mistake in the grand scheme of things, but took me a while to consider buying another Seiko again. I love my chunky Samurai and consider it a favorite in my collection.
