Seiko 5 Prospex Alpinist SPB121J1

Is this original?

Looks like from the pictures. At least mine looks the same and I got it from an AD.

·

Very fake! Stay away! Case shape wrong, internal bezel too wide, hands wrong (should be a cathedral hour), magnification on date is too small - strap is also the wrong shade of brown for an original Seiko one. Hope this helps!

bought it from Online ...🧐

Yeah, the internal bezel appears a lot wider than what it should be. My grandfather has one and it definitely is slimmer. Case shape is a little off as well from what I can see.

·

The movement side also looks wrong. This is how SPB backside looks.

Image

Your movement looks like 4R35, look at the rotor. 6R rotor has Tokyo stripes and is of different shape, the case back has SEIKO and X printed on it, the fonts are all different. Also: the balance wheel should be of brass colour.

·

Sorry to say, this definitely does not look authentic.

·

Thanks for correcting my statement which was probably provided too fast and without looking at it too diligently. And sorry to @BachuSpot if my comments misled you.

Good that I typically buy from reliable sources!

·

No. To get it clear: 5 and Prospex are two different lines. Alpinists belong in the Prospex line.

  1. The hands are all wrong, they should be cathedral instead of mercedes

  2. The case and compass proportions are wrong.

  3. The dial texture looks like a SARB017, not SPB121

  4. The serial number starts with a 6, pointing to a production year ending with a 6. SARB017 was made from 2006 until being discontinued in favour of the Prospex Alpinists. SPB121 came in 2020.

  5. The water resistance rating on the case back says 10 bar instead of 20 bar.

I'm sorry for you buying a fake, but this one was really easy to spot, even for a layman. The hands are a dead giveaway. Next time I recommend at least looking up what the watch should look like, or better, buying from a reputable seller.

Don't feel bad. Even watch YouTubers get fooled by a fake Alpinist. Why though? Why fake a Seiko? Margins are a lot lower than faking a steel Rolex for roughly the same amount of materials. (Not condoning this illegal activity. Just morbid curiosity.

Even cheap Casios are faked. Just as there are unimaginably rich people in the world, so are the poor, for whom a few dollars difference is a lot of money. Also, supply isn't everywhere as good. And most people aren't experts. All this makes the fakers' jobs easier. And for fakers themselves - if not margins, they earn in volume.

Thanks to all for the valuable comments & guidence...already request for return...🤝👏👏

I dont want to fake myself wearing fake watches...already return request hasbeen send.thanks

·

Sorry, but I believe not. There looks to be an issue with the sliding compass, looks way too wide to me. Also, from inspecting mine, there are evry subtle differences on the back.

·

The compass bezel appears to be the wrong color. Also the indices appear to be incorrect as they appear more pointed than the more contoured indices on this Alpinist.
