Original Planet Ocean

This was my original Planet Ocean. I thought it was going to last forever, but one day a couple of months into ownership its 2500c movement starting acting weird on me, and the seconds hand kept stuttering. After everything I had read about how it was basically a modular co-axial escapement slapped onto an ETA, I freaked out and sold it, but the design was spot on. Really loved it while I had it, and if the movement had been more solid it very well could have been the one. I’ve thought about going to the 8500 several times in different sizes. I’ve also been on the precipice of finding a watchco seamaster because I think the 165.024 is the design I was chasing here.

Did you ever have it serviced?

If under warranty why in the world would not get it serviced? The original PO had a 3 year warranty. Was is pre-owned?

No, unfortunately not. I kind of siked myself out after everything I read when omega was in that transitional period of trying to go in house but not quite there yet, and after it starting giving me trouble, I decided I didn’t want the headache of dealing with it if it was already having issue after just being serviced by a trusted third party right before I purchased.

I had my Breitling serviced at Breitling a couple of years ago, and recently it stopped. Things can happen inside a case, even after a proper service. I had a watch with an exhibition case back that I noticed the rotor was hanging up on, and when I took out my magnifying glass I noticed a screw had come loose and was free inside the case! Luckily I hacked the movement and no damage was done. But you could have had something similar. If I loved the watch as much as you said I’d have had it to a watchmaker for inspection.

Agreed they're the best looking interaction of the PO. Beautiful 😍

My 8500 Planet Ocean lost more than a step, more like 20-30 seconds, 😉, so I had it serviced by Omega. It was relatively expensive but when the watch came back, months later, it looked brand new, ran as new and continues to do so despite the two year warranty now being expired. Omega sends back all the parts replaced and amongst other things, they replaced the barrel! All covered.

Service is up a bit now but it would have been well worth it to send it to Omega. Oh well, chalk it up to experience.

Reference number if you remember it? Not sure what a original PO is.

Also agree. Love this version. 😎

(I do like the orange, though.)

I understand your affection for the 42mm case on the PO. Not sure but I think if you look you will find that size with the 8500 caliber movement. IMHO it’s probably one of the best of the PO s . Here’s my Skyfall it’s 42mm with the 8 series
