New found Zenith love

After posting a couple of weeks back about my interest in the black ceramic defy classic I recently turned my attention to the beautiful el primero revival shadow. I was really keen to add something to my collection that is very different to everything else I have and well I think this is an absolute beauty. Keeping with the monochrome look the case on this is actually more of a slate grey colour achieved by ‘sandblasting’ titanium. The 37mm case I felt may just be touch small but as it happens I was able to see one today in the flesh at a local AD and due to the chunky lugs and length from lug to lug this actually wears larger, somewhere between a 38/39 I would say. I also don’t have a chronograph at the moment so adding one with the prestige of the el primero movement just makes sense doesn’t it? 😅…. anyway keen to hear what you guys think of it. Also the AD showed me this heavily discounted watches of Switzerland exclusive ‘one of one hundred’ which has the most beautiful 38mm case although I would have liked it on a strap it also just doesn’t fit the bill of what I was looking for. Took a few pics next to my 114060 to show size

I’ve had that shadow in mind for over a year now. Tried it on several times but something has just stopped me from buying. I still can’t put my finger on what exactly it is.

Enjoy it!

Hey bud! Interesting… I haven’t pulled the trigger yet myself actually but I did really like it in the flesh. I think I’d need a discount to feel truly happy with it though as I don’t buy the nearly £8k price point. I know it’s a prestigious movement etc and good build quality but I just feel like 6 to 6.5 feels more like it. I can’t even really explain why…

I agree with you. The price is a sticking point. I’m sure the ADs would offer some discount as it’s not a new piece now. They definitely hinted it with me, but I didn’t push for anything without intent to buy.

Have you seen it in the safari green? I’ve tried to get hands on with that but nobody seems to have any stock.

I hadn’t seen the safari, just looked it up now. Very nice, interestingly the other itch I was hoping to scratch was something with a green dial or bezel. The only bone of contention on that one though is why they included the 4.30 date window! That was a big appeal of the shadow. Be great to see one in the flesh

I looked very closely at all the various Revival models: the Shadow, Edge of Space, CoverGirl, Safari, Lupin, Poker Chip. I bought the Liberty and I absolutely love it. I want to buy another Revival. You're absolutely correct that it wears larger due to the tonneau case shape and lug length. The pushers also contribute to this. I hesitated on the shadow due to the microblasted titanium case but I think I'd still buy it if I were in the market. I love wearing and looking at my Liberty. A Revival would be a great fit if you want a Chrono without going for the usual large, round case sizes.

Thanks, always great to hear from a current owner. I love the dial on the liberty and think this would be my preference if I was in the market for anything blue. I am a little worried about how the wear will look on the microblasted titanium but I‘m also the type of person who just accepts that my gold santos bezel will scratch in a stiff breeze but I bought it to wear and not live in a safe.

You've got the right mindset. I have the all ADLC Santos but a watch is meant to be worn and enjoyed as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to wrist shots if you decide to buy.
