A dream watch for my father

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this questioning that I am having 😅.

Since I was born my father has always had the dream of owning a TAG Heur watch.

He kept talking about being his favorite brand of all time and is real first luxury watch should be a TAG. 

Recently we were in the  watch store were I bought my first watch ( the one in my profile picture - if interested it’s a Seiko Sharp Edge Series ref: 223J1 ) and the salesman told me that this TAG Heur - shown in the picture - ( pretty much brand new ) had the price of 3500€ and that it was a great bargain.

My father really liked the idea of buying it but was not sure about the price being a great bargain or not.

If someone with more knowledge and experience could help him and me make this decision we would both really appreciate it.

P.S. Also if you have any interesting fact about this watch we would love to read it. As I said we don’t have much experience ahah.

If I'm not mistaken that should be the previous generation Carrera, which is a fine enough watch if a little big. Current gen Carreras, Calibre 02s, go for about 6~7000USD new, so I guess in terms of just price it's a good enough deal (quick google search also shows the Calibre 01s listed at around 4~5k USD btw).

Though if I may be a bit forward, really think about this. Sure you might be getting a good deal but do you really want this watch? If you end up not wearing it then you didn't save any money at all. If you're looking for something stylistically similar to the Sharp Edge, the new Carrera 3 handers or the Carrera GMT can be had for around 3-4000USD.

Edit: my mistake, I thought you were the one receiving it. Talk to your father about which kind of Tag he wants!

Consider getting him a Tag from the 90s. You can get a very nice one for a lot less than what this piece demands :)

It is indeed a big watch and maybe won’t be the best option for him.

I will try to search for some other options (maybe vintage) that make more sense and look better on him.
