There’s nothing wrong with the Submariner as a first Rolex; but don’t expect to just walk into an AD and buy one. It’s a sought-after model and you’ll probably be looking at a couple of years’ wait, minimum; possibly more given you have no prior purchase history.
That leaves the grey, and second-hand markets, where you’ll be paying a premium.
Hard to buy at any AD in Australia with no pre-purchase history. I was waited for more than two years on the waiting list. After I bought a 28mm diamond datejust, my understanding as a condition to be qualified for other popular sports rolex model.
I think it’s overpriced, too big, too shiny and has become a bit cliche. I’d much prefer a BB54 that’s readily available and thousands less. My 2 cents.
The Submariner is the iconic watch. It has been copied by many watch makers. It is only rolex you will ever need, sports and dress. I own the no date, my favorite.
It’s extremely popular for a reason - but that’s not a good enough reason for you to buy one because your opinion matters most. So although it’s understandable to gather thoughts from others, just keep in mind bias and personal preferences are individual-based. At the end of the day you have to love it and want it for your own reasons no matter what anyone else says 👍
With that said, are you prepared to wait a few years after putting your name down for one at an Authorized Dealer? Since this is a very popular Rolex and usually the default go-to for many, given that you don’t have a purchase history with an AD the chances of getting this watch offered to you is minimal. So the next question is - would you be willing to pay the grey market or used market prices to get one?
See what I mean? Only you can answer these questions because only you know your financial situation, and willingness to wait/buy from grey/used market. In any case, you should enjoy the journey and have fun with “the hunt” as it makes the eventual acquisition all the more epic 👏

I've had it for about 23-24 years. I only wear it in December so it only has 2 years of wear on it. Never had a problem... it's never been serviced (if it ain't broke don't fix it).

If you are undecided then wait until you know either way. This isn't a decision that anyone else can make for you.

Otherwise the ad would politely tell you they wouldn’t accept any more applicants. As it’s pointless to wait forever. lol

That would suck because the secondary market is way above retail
Of course it is. Are you okay spending $10k+ on something you're unsure of?
Can’t go wrong with Sub. It’s a super easy to wear watch and goes with just about any outfit. I love mine!
I have never owned any Rolex. Do they come with bracelet plastic wrap with steel type (904L) printed?

Once acquired one I’ll be looking for strap to change its look here and there

it´s an icon, can´t go wrong with the Sub

You know that’s a fake, right?
it's my first and only Rolex... in hindsight, I might have gone with a Sea Dweller

I get your reasoning 💯

How’s the experience with the watch so far?
