Saw this while looking for my next purchase and thought to share. Pretty interesting stuff.

Other than a good reason to not use Chrono24 anymore. Absolutely nothing interesting about it at all 🤷‍♂️

To each their own I guess. I find Chrono24 to be the most secure platform to buy from other individuals from around the world, especially when dealing with high end watches.

I think this is great. I agree about Chrono24 being the best platform to buy and sell used watches and this might help widen the marketplace.

I used Chrono 24 one time to sell a watch, never again. The watch, a Vostok was bought by a buyer in Denmark, no problem I shipped from the US. He paid Chrono 24 and they held my payment until he recurved, no problem. Two months went by, tracking showed watch delivered, in Copenhagen waiting on pick up for 3 weeks. Never got paid, did the buyer pick it up, was it lost? Chrono 24 was no help, messages to buyer went unanswered. I was just out of a watch and the money it sold for. Never again.

I'm not a huge fan of the platform but I think it's fine. There are too many ghost listings, pricing is naturally all over the place but their "value" graphs are even worse. If you showed me that in a professional capacity I would jump out the window. An escrow service is okay but I'm pretty sure there is still plenty of opportunity to scam someone in a private sale transaction, what eBay does with their authentication service seems far from perfect but still much better. And although eBay takes higher commissions they have periods where it's actually cheaper to sell than on Chrono24.

I'm glad you brought up eBay. I use both but what I have noticed is A) Chrono24 is run by watch enthusiasts like us. They are more than just a means to buy and sell watches... They do interviews, videos, and articles. B) eBay is pure business and even if they have that authenticity service, I see a lot of fakes in there that is passed as "refurbished".

As a buyer you always have to have your guard up whether buying online or in person, it's as simple as that.

Is this the new thing GOAT’s of their sports buying into web based watch shops? Ronaldo buys a piece chron24 and Brady buys piece Hodinkee. Who’s next? Tiger Woods buys a piece of Watchfinders. Wherever!

True, there is fakes on eBay. More than on Chrono24 probably. But less ghost listing.

I'm fine with them doing interviews and all but when it comes to selling and buying I am happy to do that anywhere. Whoever offers the best service gets my vote.

I think eBay is going in the right direction. They are at least trying. Chrono24 is just far too expensive for what they are offering as a service (basically a platform where you can list a watch). They will charge you even when it's payment on collection. Platforms that offer such services exists for cars as well, and are entirely free where I live 😬. Hell, you can't even check ratings for private sellers on there. You can't unlist a watch and sell elsewhere either. It's their right to have those terms, but it's my right to dislike them for it 😉

I have little problem buying on Chrono24 if the price is right, have done so several times, but I rarely sell a watch there. I wait for eBay to have a promotional weekend, list my watch for auction, show the QR code at the post office and ship my watch to the authenticator. Once it arrives at the independent 3rd party I get my money with a 3% fee taken off (half of Chrono24) and the rest is largely someone else's problem.

It would seem so...

Well explained, and I do agree with you on selling through Chrono24.
