Like many of us, I have been fascinated by the Grand Seiko Spring Drive, and also like most, thought the Snowflake would be the natural fit, but as I looked across my boxes at the time into the sea of black and white dials, I figured I would mix it up. For my first GS, I wanted a few things:
- Spring Drive
- 40 or less
- Something different than the rest of the collection
When they released the season collection in 2020 a few stood out, but I was captivated by this dial and while they can claim it is grey all they want, under most lighting conditions has a brown hue and the bamboo green sweeping second hand really pulls the room together.
I know it seems GS releases a new variation every week, but I remain glad I grabbed this one. Since I do not see many of these shared, figured I would take a couple photos to share.
Stunning!
I've handled one of those in person, they are an extremely well made watch. I love the colour of the seconds hand and power reserve indicator, it really adds a bit of life to a watch that could look dull otherwise.

Spot on. Sadly, not too many people get to go to a GS AD, and with some watches, one has to see and handle in person. I find many GS models fall into that category.

I actually saw it when I met up with a guy from a Christopher Ward group I'm part of. We each brought along a couple of watches, and chatted for a couple hours about watches and such over beers.
It was a great way to see some interesting stuff I'd never think to look at in an AD.
my next watch!
my next watch!
You will love it!
