A winning pair to draw to.

Crunchers โ€“

I usually do not take the time to do any lengthy or detailed reviews of watches, though I thoroughly enjoy the ones my fellow Crunchers post, and appreciate them taking the time to share their thoughts since none of us has a Watches-R-Us to walk through on weekends to try on everything that catches our eyes.

I am making an exception from my typical lack of participation and offering a brief summary of why I am so happy with my two Seaholm watches.ย

I first found out about them during a random web watch search for โ€œField Watchesโ€ (thank you, Internet!)ย  and came across The Rover.ย  Being Scotch Irish, the name appealed as much as the clean, tool style watch did.ย  I immediately did more internet sleuthing and found that there was precious little information to be found, other than what was already on their Site.ย  The few reviews on some โ€œOutdoorโ€ sites were pretty generic rehashes of the same.ย  At the time there was just one Youtube review which was very positive.ย  I started saving my pennies but knew the retail price was out of my budget or going to be along wait so I scoured the grey market Sites for weeks and months and finally found someone who was offering one the he loved but found he didnโ€™t wear it as it was too bulky for his taste (you can find the specs on the Seaholm Sites so go find them there) and was willing to part with the nearly โ€œnewโ€ watch for a really good price; pretty much half retail price.ย  I took that chance.

I received that Rover and nearly needed a good sit-down at my good fortune.ย  The Rover knocked my socks off with its fit and finish, solid quality look and feel.ย  It was in no way โ€œtoo bulkyโ€ and if you read the specs, youโ€™ll see why it is built the way it is; Sellita movement, anti-magnetic, anti-shock, etc.ย  For my just over 7-inch wrist circumference, and personal anatomical cross section, the curved case and curved links just melted this thing onto my wrist for all day comfort.

I saw on their Site that there was a Limited-Edition version called The Clark LE and was already โ€œsold outโ€ by the time I even discovered them.ย  Their edition numbering is actually printed onto their very unique dial and I never thought for a minute that Iโ€™d find, let alone afford one to call my own.ย  Both the Rover and Clark did come up on grey Sites but again, the asking prices were too much for my wallet as their value seemed to have increased over time, especially the Clark LE.

Here's where a bit of luck happened.ย  For no logical reason, I reached out to Seaholm directly to inquire about if they had any of the Clark LE watches left.ย  Sometimes, like on the Rover, a buyer changes their mind and who knows, I may get lucky a second time . . .

Todd Adams contacted me back and said, yes, someone had returned one.ย  That customer had said, โ€œ. . . they saw it on Instagram and when it arrived, they found that it just wasnโ€™t for them.โ€ย  They had returned it, unworn and in new condition, with all the stickers still on it and to make a short story shorter, that is exactly how it arrived to me, and my Seaholm lightening had indeed struck twice.ย  Mine is #153.

As I already knew the quality that the Seaholm Rover had, I accepted the price that Todd Adams offered the Clark LE to me, gladly.ย  I canโ€™t say how much I appreciated Todd answering all my cautious questions, as it is hard to believe I could luck out like that but he patiently arranged for my purchase and communicated all steps in the transaction clearly.ย

The Rover has a more classic Field Watch dial layout and vibe with the dial having a subtle vertical texturing that I find really sets it apart style wise from the wide range of field watches on the market.ย ย  The Clark LE has an even more unique dial with no outer minute marker chapter ring, and I feel it suites my โ€œeverydayโ€ wear needs where I donโ€™t need to time anything down the second.ย  The Clark also has the vertical texturing but it appears that the dark color of the dial is a subtle shade different than the Rover.

Finally, to wrap up, the two are very similar but so unique to unto themselves; the generous use of C3 SuperLuminova, Green on the Rover and Blue on the Clark LE, makes each a statement piece.ย  The rugged engineering and styling give one confidence that these will not let you down in whatever adventure you may encounter.ย

Seaholm, IMHO, is a company that is flying way to low under the radar for the quality they offer.ย  I hope these few words help to correct that, at least in some small way.

Thanks for sharing! Never heard of Seaholm until today, the Rover looks very good!

I understand that quality is good and that they have a Sellita movement but I am not sure if this justifies a price of nearly 1900โ‚ฌ. Comparing them to Christopher Ward - not knowing if this is a fair comparison but could imagine it is - I would get a similar CW for 600 - 700โ‚ฌ less. And this might only be one example.

Just want to understand if there is a special reason for the price, especially because the watch is quite compelling and I might consider it.

Thanks!

Very interesting post thank-you! I have heard of the brand but not this model. I will look them up. Do you have any pics of the lume, caseback and clasp? Is the bracelet any good?

Heiko,

As to your question about justifying a price, that I can't answer for you. I was pretty clear about my experience and where and how I found them. If your question was to the larger Cruncher audience then I hope you find your answers there or do your own research. Regards.

Craig, yes the lume quality is very good but I only have a cellphone camera

I will try to capture a lume shot of them and post it. The bracelet is solid, milled and double clasped, curved links and 3 holes of adjustment. Mine fit me me just right.

Just posted two lume shots; stepped out side on a cloudy day for a few minutes then took the pictures inside. I will let you all decide. I have found that they last all night so that at 0'dark thirty in the morning, when I get up, I can still see it fine on both, no weak spots.

Very nice and unique one

I've seen this one before (internet only) and thought it was very unique! The dial striations are ๐Ÿ”ฅ and the lume is ๐Ÿ’ฏ! I actually like the larger "Seaholm 153" font. Maybe it's the black dial that sort of shrinks it down some but it looks great.

Congratulations my friend! Always good to see those rare birds on WC.

Wonderful story! Congratulations!!!

In this case that dial numbering thing is really working for me!

I like the limited numbered edition a lot but ebded up with an Oris Propilot. These are nice though.
