Advice for The Explorer II Polar 16570

Hi all watch enthusiasts out there! I am thinking of getting the Rolex Explorer 2 Polar dial ref 16570. It’s a watch that caught my eye before I got into watches due to the wrist presence but yet very wearable for smaller wrists.

What’s the actual case size? I’ve noticed some referring it to 39mm and 40mm. Are there any differences in size from year of production? Also some come with drilled lugs and some don’t. Drilled lugs would definitely be preferred as changing straps on a Rolex is a pain…

What are some of the things that I have to look out for as this model is no longer in production and can only purchase it used. Or would you just go for the Tudor Blackbay Pro?

Would appreciate any advise from all you watch nerds out there ! 🙏

40mm but fits like a 39. I’ve had the black bay pro and it’s amazing! Definitely worth it! But I have been eyeballing an explorer ii with a tritium dial. Gotta love that real patina compared to the faux from the black bay. Ohh and it is the Polar Rolex Explorer ii. BUT you can’t forget the significance of the black bay bracelet

Thanks for the feedback especially on the drilled lugs. Yea putting it back on even with that tool is difficult 😅

I thought it was 40mm too but heard some people referring it as an 39 like a James Stacey did. So I was a bit confused. Haha I like everything about the BB Pro but most of my watches are black/dark grey face type.

It’s either the explorer ii or the BB pro

You will also never lose your $$ on the explorer. If you own the BB pro for a year and the explorer is still living rent free in your head and you decide to sell to help fund the explorer you will take a decent hit and net around $2500-2750 or less depending on availability (Jomashop just started discounting them). If you decide your more of a vintage Pepsi GMT guy in a year and decide to part ways with the Explorer you will pretty much get all your money back if you decide to sell or trade.

That’s a great financial point as I’m currently undecided.
