Interested in watches since birth, collecting since my youth.... aggressively collecting since I became a father. Infecting my son daily with my hobby :D
I have always been fascinated by my parents' and grandparents' watches. Certina, Tissot, Rado... there was a box with many watches, including my first 2 children's watches: a Tissot Seastar and a Flik Flak. I always tried them on until the day I could read and wear them :)
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Well, the first one was a Flik Flak, but the first one I consider my watch was a Tissot V8 Chrono (quartz).
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
The Tissot V8 Chrono is currently the cheapest watch I have (apart from a few Casio's), but as it was my first serious watch, my graduation present from my parents, and my father died tragically just before I became a father myself, I consider it my most important watch. I really take care of it, service it, wear it in family photos and on special occasions when I need my dad to be with me.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
spend the amount of money that lets you sleep well, make plans, think about the bigger picture, throw the plans away and buy what you like ;) as John Mayer says, you will sell all the first watches you buy in a rush (or without emotional attachment). as you discover your taste (and budget) it gets better and you start to slim down your collection. just take your time and discover your path.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Tag Heuer is back on my wish list after 20 years (just bought a Monza)... Cartier is new to me. Also Zenith, Oris (I just bought an Aquis Upcycle), Ressence... and I am really surprised by Van Cleef and Arpels!
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
My targeted grailwatch is a Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar. Its something I always liked and since I tried it on, I fell in love with the green dial version. A less attainable would be the Ressence Type 1 (tried it on at Watch & Wonders)... or the grail of grails... HYT Moon Runner!!! really over the top!
