Christmas came early- Tudor Pelagos FXD

I've long been a huge fan of the earlier Tudor Marine Nationale subs, so when this was announced in November I knew I wanted to get my hands on one. Got the call a few days ago from my AD, and was at his door within an hour to pick up my new Pelagos FXD. Feel like Christmas came early- especially considering how few of these are in stock. The FXD hasn’t been off my wrist since. Meanwhile my 1680, 16750, 94010 and the other watches in my meager collection have taken a long vacation, while the FXD gets all the wrist time. It’s the biggest watch I’ve owned. But it's surprisingly comfortable on my 7” wrist- possibly because of the lighter titanium build. The clean dial layout and snowflake hands make it easy to read at a glance- even in low light. I've had spring bars fail on me while surfing, so the fixed lugs are a big benefit. And there are so many other things I like about the FXD: the pointy crown guards, the thicker knurled crown and bezel, the deeper shade of blue, slimmer 12.75mm case, and the engraved MN21 on the caseback are the top of the long list. My only complaint is the name. Couldn't they have come up with something else better than FXD?

So far, it’s been a long Tudor journey- having gone through the BB 41MM Smiley, the BB 41MM Blue Smiley, and most recently the BB58 Blue. But while the Black Bays were wonderful, each in their own way, the Pelagos FXD checks so many more boxes for me. An understated tool watch built tough to take a beating, infused with Marine Nationale DNA- honestly I couldn't be happier with the FXD.

PS- Big thanks to Max for your wonderful youtube video on the Pelagos FXD. Great job!!

Thanks for the shout out buddy, it's such a darling of a watch in person. Tudor quality can't be fully appreciated in pictures. Enjoy your Xmas present 😎👍

Deciding between this and the BB58 with a 6.5 “ wrist. Leaning towards the FXD. Am I making a mistake by choosing the larger watch for my smallish wrist?

If your main concern is the size, then I think the BB58 would a better option. However, if you're looking for a rugged purpose-driven tool watch, with a distinctive milsub connection, then the FDX is the best choice.

One other consideration- I found that the comfort of a watch is not totally a matter of measured length and width dimensions. I've found that the the weight and the height are also important factors. For example, I found the Black Bay 41mm on the bracelet to be way too heavy and thick for pro-longed wear on my wrist. One of the reasons I sold it. However, because the FDX is a lighter titanium and thinner, it wears very comfortable on my wrist.
Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either choice.

Thank you, appreciate the input!

I love the FXD - too few watches utilize a bi-directional countdown bezel (which I think is more useful than a unidirectional bezel). I stopped by an AD last month to try an FXD - they said to check back in March :(

Congrats.

Health to enjoy. 👍

What is your strap preference on the FXD? I'm a rubber strap fan so wouldn't think I'd like the velcro option. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Good question. I've had it on a Crown & Buckle perlon, and then a C&B Nato.
But lately I've been wearing the FXD on a canvas strap by SteveO.

And I have a few more Natos on the way. The watch is a strap monster! ;-)

I’m liking the fxd more than the 58. Haven’t seen the fxd in person though.

I wanted that watch so badly. Unfortunately, when I got the call, I went to try it on and it wasn’t gonna work for a member of the itty-bitty wrist committee .

A lovely watch and a future target for me. Recently got the full fat pelagos and the PO 1 so it will be a while before I have the funds!

Tudor all the way!!

Thanks! The FXD is well worth the wait! I have it paired with the Pelagos 39 on a steel bracelet. Really don't need anything else these days- it's the perfect 2 watch combo!
