One watch collection competition. All under 400. Episode 2. WildCard Group A.

Wild Card 1/4 Disclaimer: These are not reviews or recommendations. These are not even an accurate comparison of watches stated below. All the series is made for fun and only scratches the surface. I’ve personally handled only a few watches from the entire competition and have to trust the official information from the producers. I will not say that the bracelet is good if I haven’t experienced that, but I can tell that it has solid links and solid endlinks if the producer claims so. Be careful. Thanks to you guys, my list has expanded from 16 to 24 units and now we have to bring them down to 16 again. Haha. So I decided to split 16 wild card watches to 4 groups of 4 and organize polls. First 2 watches in the result of the poll would advance and 2 bottom will be eliminated. Harsh reality of the watch world. Please vote as you like, whether you had some experience with the watch or not. I will try to give a very limited info on every unit and some flags the watch description raised (if there are any). Hope you will hear some new names here or maybe share you experience of handling one of the watches of interest. Let’s begin. Group A of Wild Card category: 1. Unimatic Modelo Due Sizes: 38.5mm case diameter, 47,5mm lug-to-lug, 13,7mm thick, 22mm lug width. Movement: NH35A (automatic, hacks, handwinds, ghost date, 21600 bph, bi-directional rotor, 41 hour power reserve). Materials: sandblasted 316L steel Crystal: Double domed sapphire with underside AR coating Lume: SuperLuminova C1 White Band: Nylon nato + Black rubber strap WR: 300m Price: 400$ What to love: Clean unique design, good materials, 300m or water resistance. Grain of salt: a bit thick with its 13.7mm (including sapphire crystal). May be difficult to find. Not good with a tuxedo thanks to blasted finishing. 2. Relio Solstice Noir Sizes: 38mm case diameter, 46mm lug-to-lug, 11.9mm thick, 20mm lug width. Movement: Miyota 9039 (automatic, hacks, handwinds, 28800 bph, unidirectional rotor, 42 hour power reserve). Materials: 316L steel brushed and polished with carved sandblasted sides. Crystal: Sapphire with multiple underside AR coating Lume: BGW9 SuperLuminova Band: Metal bracelet with solid links and end-links, milled clasp, 6 micro-adjustment holes WR: 100m Price: 395$ What to love: Universal look with a sunburst dial, solid bracelet, high beat movement. Grain of salt: a bit quirky, no street credibility, that «R» logo. 3. Citizen Mechanical NB 1050-59E JDM Sizes: 38mm case diameter, 46,5mm lug-to-lug, 10,5mm thick, 19mm lug width. Movement: Citizen 9011 or Miyota 9015 (automatic, hacks, handwinds, 28800 bph, unidirectional rotor, 42 hour power reserve). Materials: 316L steel brushed and polished. Crystal: Sapphire with underside AR coating Lume: No info Band: Metal bracelet with solid links and end-links, milled clasp, 2 micro-adjustment holes WR: 100m Price: 370$ What to love: Real GADA watch, good finishing (at first sight) and size, big brand. Grain of salt: 19mm lug width =(, 2 micro-adjustment holes at the clasp 4. Rotate North Terrain Cat.1 Field Watch Sizes: 38mm case diameter, 43mm lug-to-lug, 12mm thick, 18mm lug width. Movement: NH35A (automatic, hacks, handwinds, ghost date, 21600 bph, bi-directional rotor, 41 hour power reserve). Materials: 316L steel brushed. Crystal: Sapphire Lume: No info Band: Single-piece rubber strap (mixed reviews) WR: 100m Price: 275$ What to love: Minimal look, checks a lot of boxes, compact lug-to-lug. Grain of salt: Too sterile? Not a fan of the date window. Strap is controversial. Please vote for one that you like the most and write down in the comments if you want to vote for more than one watch, I would count them manually. And please feel free to comment on any of the watches or share the experience of handling any of those.

I like the Unimatic best but more as an extra watch, not as my only watch.

For me Relio and Citizen would seem the most versatile, the other ones would be too matte and tool-like for my every day. Because of the usefulness of the date complication (would like it colour matched though) I'd like the NB1050 better as that single watch for every day.

Voted for the Unimatic - utterly impressed with my Modelo Quattro, really nicely made, very accurate for an NH35 (that could be luck or regulation, no idea) and an unusual design. Also an interesting story with the owners / designers who are very passionate about what they do. Good mix of limited editions and a core range.

Great choice explanation. I didn't know about Relio before. Seems like a nice one but very limited info. So I also voted for Citizen here. P.S. Unimatic is pure love. Will get one for sure some day.

Purely subjectively based on looks, I pick the Citizen. In terms of specs, it's also at least as good as the others, and the Miyota 9000 series movement is arguably a step above an NH35. Furthermore, a known brand is worth something. I've never hear of the others, so I'll take it they haven't established a track record or garnered respect from the watch community. I'll go with the known quantity. And, finally, other than the Rotate North Terrain, the Citizen is cheaper to boot. So, Citizen all the way.

Date window is a plus, unless it is made as Rotate North managed. You also offered that Citizen. Without you it wouldn't be here. And as we see it has huge chances to go further. The competition there is going to be brutal.

Agree that Citizen has the biggest history and acknowledgment among watch lovers (and not only), but wild card is also made for microbrands that would love to fight for that territory of GADA watches. I find them at least interesting. Voted for Citizen myself though. But if there was a different Citizen I would be not so sure.

I voted for the Relio, but would also like to vote for the Citizen. Both are more Versatile (for varied occasions), and Adaptable (straps & bracelets). I like the unique hour indices of the Relio which adds to its personality. And the Citizen looks very much like my first love watch, the Seiko5 SNXS79.
