Cartier Santos Large vs. Medium: 3D Printing to the Rescue!

The Cartier Santos collection offers two popular sizes—Large and Medium—each with its own distinctive charm and appeal. While trying on the watches at the AD provides a valuable tactile experience, it's often difficult to truly gauge the long-term comfort and visual impact during a brief session. This is where the idea of 3D printing the models came into play.

By modeling both the Cartier Santos Large and Medium, I was able to 3D print them and bring them to life in a tangible way. This process allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how each size felt on my wrist and how the proportions complemented my style. It provided a unique perspective that exceeded the limitations of a traditional in-store experience.

3D printing watch models opens up exciting possibilities for the future. Imagine watch brands offering simplified 3D models that customers can print and test at home. This innovative approach would empower enthusiasts to make confident choices when investing in their timepiece.

The 3D printing looks like the same quality material as the MoonSwatch

Very cool idea!

Next step: print the movement as well 😅

Got the cad files for us fellow printers? It would be awesome to print out my own santos 😂

Oh wow, smart way of finding out if it fits you!

This is genius. Can you provide the STL Files somewhere? I'm highly interrested :)

keep in mind the other big difference between the large and medium is that the large has a date and the medium doesn’t. i got the large. while i’m fine with the size, i think the medium could’ve worked for me too. i don’t regret getting the large because of its size but i sometimes wish i had the medium because it’s easier to pick up and wear without having to set the date.

i rotate between quite a few watches and i’ve come to enjoy date-less watches for that reason. and the Santos’ power reserve isn’t long enough to last between wears. so i basically have to set it every time i wear it and that gets annoying.

Great feedback, and I completely share your sentiment regarding dates on watches. They can be quite a hassle, especially when you're not wearing the watch every day. I've also had my fair share of experiences with the Cartier Santos, having tried both sizes at the AD. Interestingly, I found that the larger size suited me better (given that I'm 6'1" with a wrist size of around 7"). Even my wife agreed and felt that the medium size looked a bit off, not just on my wrist but overall.

However, when I turned to the web for advice, everything seemed to point towards the medium size as the recommended choice. But now, after printing and examining them, I no longer have any doubts. The medium size, right in front of me, appears too small. Surprisingly, it's almost 1:1 with the Casio F91W, which is a great size, but I personally don't enjoy wearing it due to its compactness (although I acknowledge the Cartier's elegance and class).

Now, I realize that I fall more into the medium-large size range when considering both height and wrist size. Therefore, I can't align with most of the comments out there. For example, people claim that the PRX Automatic is too large, but for me, that watch wears like a dream.

Cheers!

I love this! I tried every color combo on at the AD and even after 30 minutes of trying every one, I still don't know. I think I'm leaning toward the Medium.

Would like to try this out, unfortunately, I don't have 3D printing experience. Anyone wanna pass along their set when they're done with them?
