Watch Photography: Vortic Hampden “The Canton”

I don’t know what to call this watch.

It’s originally a Hampden. But then Vortic turned it into something called the Canton.

It’s all very confusing.

What’s not confusing is that is absolutely gorgeous and that I love it. It’s also unique - an old pocket watch with all its inner heart now proudly on display, and the face beautifully framed in a new case.

I also love the crown sitting on top at 12 o’clock.

The watch itself is lovely, and the pictures are amazing. I still don't think that it's fair or correct to say that it's a Vortic watch. It's a Hampden watch that happens to have been placed in a Vortic case. It'd be like taking a Tudor movement and dial and putting them into a Rolex case (like they used to do). It's still a Tudor -- not a Rolex.

I agree - and in fairness to Vortic, they don’t brand any part of the watch (other than around the back of the watch around the edges) as Vortic. So they really don’t pretend that it’s a Vortic either. If anything, they celebrate the heritage of the original watch, but give it a new opportunity to “live” given that (let’s face it) pocket watches aren’t really de-rigueur these days!
