Selling on ebay - tip or tricks?

So it’s time to thin the collection, but not quite sure where/how to sell. FB marketplace? eBay? Anyone got any tips or tricks for a first time seller?

Nothing too fancy, both watches under $1000 (Seiko and Traska divers to start with)

I have had fantastic luck both buying and selling on r/watchexchange if you are a Redditor.

I’ve sold about 8 watches this year, and you have a few options.

  1. Look at what others price the same watch you are selling. See what the cheapest price is for a comparable watch. And see if you are willing to let it go for a few bucks cheaper, if not don’t bother selling. Keep in mind eBay of going to take 15% of that.

  2. Only do buyitnow and give free shipping, I just ship it on a flat rate box

  3. Be ready to deal with the amount of money you loss.

Example. You purchased a watch $1000. The best price on eBay is $750 buy it now. You post yours for $700 buyitnow. From the $700 you pay like $16 shipping and like $75 for eBay fees. So after eBay collects and you ship the $700 watch you sold you get like $610

Take good pictures, be honest.

Take good pictures, be honest.

An absolute must - I see so many with awful pictures. And I skip them - if they can’t be bothered to get their pictures in focus why bother. In the worst cases they are deliberately hiding something - so I assume the worst.

Follow up. Thanks all for the advice. Those eBay fees add up, and yeah I took a hit on a few, but bottom line I’m ready for the next watch!
