I wrote Santa when I was in the single digits, asking for a watch. If I had to guess, I saw someone wear a watch in G.I. Joe and I thought it was cool.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first watch I purchased was a quartz Timex. Before that I recall having a Nightmare Before Christmas watch from a Burger King kid’s meal.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Take your time. Your tastes will change. Don’t end up with a collection you want to sell, but can’t.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Microbrands are doing a lot of interesting stuff. Orion has a great arabic numeral font that I’m totally into. It looks like a classic conservative with a little hot sauce. I like the modern-classic look of the Hellcat. They also make a great field watch. Same font, but classic design except it has applied indices which give the dial three dimensionality.
Christopher Ward can’t seem to miss. Everything they release is cool.
Longines seems to have hit their stride. The Spirit in particular has my interest.
