My watch collecting journey started when my cousin gave me his old G-Shock when we were at his going away party. After that, my interest for watches grew and I was looking at G-Shocks and only G-Shocks. I eventually realized that there were watch brands besides G-Shocks so I started looking at Seiko, Tissot, Casio, Tudor, and other brands. I also found out that there were whole YouTube channels devoted to watch collecting so I started watching a lot of them. My top three are Ben's Watch Club, Teddy Baldassare, and Nico Leonard.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first watch I ever got was actually not the G-Shock that my cousin gave me. I think my first watch was a Timex Ironman watch that my parents bought for me when I was like 9 or 10. Sadly, since I didn't appreciate watches at that time I always forgot to use it. Honestly don't know where it is now but if I find it I'll post a pic.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I think my the only watch that has an interesting story behind it would be my Casio G-Shock because it was given to me from my cousin at his going away party. I looked at his room and saw it and I was like, "Damn, this is a cool ass watch" or something like that. He just replied, "You can have it if you want." And I was like "Are you sure??? This looks expensive." He just said, "Nah, it's all good, just keep it." And to this day I never go anywhere without that watch.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
So, I think this is the part where I have to confess something, I am not a watch collector. That doesn't mean I'm not a watch enthusiast, however, because I like to see everything that goes into a watch and I can appreciate all the work and craftsmanship that goes into certain watches. I also do plan to get into watch collecting when I get a job with steady income that makes it possible for me to get into the hobby. For now though, I think anybody should just go to YouTube to search for advice.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Honestly, there have been a few brands I've been wanting to shop from like Tissot, Bulova, Orient, Citizen, and of course Casio.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
So there is definitely a list of watches I want to get and I think the top 6 I want to get are.
6. A CasiOak
5. An Orient Bambino or an Orient Sun and moon phase watch
4. Tissot PRX with Blue Dial (the quartz version)
3. A Tudor watch
2. An Omega Speed master
1. A Rolex
I know number one might seem impossible to get but hopefully I can find one pre-owned that doesn't cost a lot. I'll also try and allocate a separate fund for my watch getting adventures.
