The Armitron Ridgemont, a nifty li’l strap monster

I was planning on getting a Casio AQ-230 but came across the Armitron Ridgemont on sale for just $35. Having been quite pleased with my previous purchase of an Armitron Griffy, I decided to give this a try. And man, am I happy that I did! Admittedly it’s a tad larger than what I was looking for but that came with the benefit of having a 20mm lug width, making it an absolute strap monster. It looks great on almost anything!

I also love that the case is made of stainless steel instead of the chrome colored resin used on the Casio. The finishing is simple, linear brushing all around except for the polished bezel, but it is executed quite well. The dial is also very nice especially when it catches the light just right. The digital display is subtle but still legible and features an electroluminescent backlight as well. I’ve only had it a few days but I’m already very fond of it. The Griffy made me appreciate Armitron but this Ridgemont has turned me into an absolute fan. I’ve already got my sights on either a gold Rubik or Rogue. Any other Armitron fans out there?

My Citizen has ruined all other analog-digital watches for me. My OCD can’t handle the analog and digital sections not being in sync with each other, something which isn’t an issue on the Citizen, since the digital module drives the analog handset.

Heh. I get you. Fortunately I’m not as particular about exact sync between ana and digi. On the Ridegmont, the second hand does hack so I managed to sync it pretty damn close. There is the tiniest of a split second difference between tick and blip, noticeable only if you really pay attention to it so I don’t so it doesn’t bug me too much.

That’s a great looking watch by the way!

Thanks. My old 18th birthday gift from July 2004.

This came in the mail last night. It's all stainless steel, 165 ft WR, dual time, stopwatch alarm and crappy green led backlight on the left of the display. I love every detail of this watch and the weak backlight feels so authentic to the retro vibe of this watch. I'm so happy with Armitron's recent releases and hope to own one of their ocean plastic watches before the end of summer!

Love the look of the Armitron Rogue! I have been contemplating on getting that and the Rubik actually. Trouble is they will be pretty much redundant to my current Casio pieces. Much nicer build quality on these Armitrons though with the less flimsy bracelets and solid stainless steel cases.

I too am hoping to get an Armitron Wave or two. Unfortunately they aren’t available here in Philippines just yet.

Between the rogue and the Rubik I would choose the Rogue simply for more water resistance. I really love the idea of the ocean plastic watch and hope they come out with even more color ways soon!
