Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
I have loved watches ever since I can remember. In college my appreciation of watches really started to grow and develop. I've been an avid collector/enthusiast for the last 15 years or so.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Can remember exactly the model but it was a Fossil diver that had a bracelet similar to the Heuer Link style. Unfortunately it has been lost through the years.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
The Seiko 6309 pictured in my profile is a birth year watch for me and was purchased from the original owner. I bought it from a Navy diver that registered more than 800 dives with it and used it for many years as his primary watch. I bought it in 2016 the same year as the new turtle(SRP777) came out and my son was also born. Now I have a birth year turtle as well as a birth year turtle for my son.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Buy what you want and don't worry about what people are pumping on Instagram or YouTube. There are so many great watches out there from a Casio AE-1200 to a Kari Voutilainen GMR(not that I can actually buy this amazing piece).
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I've been deep diving on independent watchmakers for the last handful of years. Some of the brands are Garrick, Moser, Kudoke, Habring2, etc... I'm still a huge fan of the larger companies like Rolex, Seiko, Omega.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Grail watches are tricky for me. I find that if you say something is a grail watch and you actually find a way to get it, you'll just create a new grail. This has happened to me time and time again. As a result, I've now operated with two categories: Obtainable/Mini Grail Watch and True Grail Watch. The True Grail Watch is one that I won't ever get to unless I win a sizeable lottery. My Mini Grail is an Omega CK859 or Omega Speedmaster Rising Sun My True Grail is just about anything from Kari Voutilainen
