This was the first luxury watch I ever bought myself back in 2000. £1,500 RRP at the time. I sold it in 2021 for £2,500. Who said watches don't make money? For me, it's still the best looking Santos you can buy. Simple, understated & not in your face huge like the current Santos models.

Oh wait.

I certainly did for over 20 years 👍

Still looking good Chris 🎯

What was the size of your Santos? I’m looking at the current one in medium, looks pretty decent to me.

Did you sell it to buy something new instead or just didn’t like the watch as much anymore?

The Santos back then was a far smaller watch. It was 29mmX41mm, which I think was the medium. It never felt a small watch until the industry moved towards 40mm & above.

I sold it at the time to fund a lot of microbrand purchases, crazy when I think back on it. I ended up buying the Santos 100 a couple of years later to fill the hole it left behind.

I constantly hold the urge to buy a microbrand watch, they’re doing such a fine job nowadays. Latest Farer’s world timer in green is killing me! But fortunately I’ve set some rules for my collection and they are holding me in place (for now 😁).

And I’m glad to hear you got Santos back, shows how good this watch is!

I love many of the microbrands out there today. Unimatic, Isotope, Moels & Co, Horage, Studio Underd0g, Zelos, An Ordain, Yema & even Tsar Bomba have all come into my collection at some point. Many of them have now departed. I love them because they aren't well known, the chances of bumping into another person wearing them are slim. They're an opportunity to have something that nobody else has at an affordable price. The downside is that I have the attention span of a gnat & an extremely low boredom threshold. Selling them can be a slow process & one that very often sees you lose half the money you paid for them.

All of my efforts now are focused on not jumping in for the next one I see that I like. Resisting temptation is difficult. The latest Moels & Co model is a watch I really like but I'm hoping not to buy one, if that makes sense!

Do you have any favourites in purchased microbrands? Maybe a watch that did really strike the look or/and feel for you? Mine currently is Brew Metric, like a lot the watch itself, but it also covers the connection to my love of coffee making.

I really like but I'm hoping to not to buy one, if that makes sense!

Totally makes sense 💯I like the square one Moels & Co. model, but there was too little info on the brand and the style was too dressy for me to actually wear, so I didn’t bother purchasing.

Also: love the ”seductivly” wording on their promo material 😁 It really is pulling you in..

Funny you should mention liking the Moels & Co watch, that is one that I do have & I really love the televsion set look of the watch. Purely for being a nostalgic trip back to my childhood when TV sets were more like furniture than TVs.

My favourite is my Horage Omnium though, such a unique watch becuase of the faceted crystal & that there's only 25 of them been created.

Oh, I think I just learned about Horage existence as a brand yesterday, nice coincidence 😅

Omnium is quite an interesting model! I’ve checked several sources in google images trying to understand is that a crystal distortion or dial or both. Reminds me of vitage King Seiko Vanac series, which I thought of buying, but they look quite goofy and usually sell out in a moment. Here’re some pictures from TokeiMedic site:

They are fairly similar to the Horage faceted crystal, although they have taken it a couple of steps further. Horage have their facets at the top & bottom of the watch & are much reduced in size. More pic 2 than 1 or 3;

The patina on the dial adds another level of elegance and cool! Your Santos looks beautiful 🤩
