Why I chose THIS STRAP for my FIELD WATCH!

This is my military field watch, the trusty f91w…but this one is green! What’s most exciting is the strap, the iconic army green with a yellow pin stripe Marine Nationale watch strap. This watch strap was worn by French Navy divers in the 1960’s, and was made from their own parachute chord - hence being green in colour with a yellow stitch - giving the strap some elasticity (and increased comfort)!

The colours of this strap hold another military connotation - the global colour code for high explosive munitions is a yellow stripe, generally on an army green coloured piece of ordnance. As we know, the f91w has an infamous history of being used as the time piece in improvised explosives, so this high explosive colour code is a nod to that history.

The last remarkable thing about this strap is where I bought it. I could not find one that was army green with a yellow pin stripe and black buckles that was 18mm wide anywhere but Aliexpress. I paid 49 cents AUD and got free shipping. I expected the strap to never arrive, but it did…in under 3 weeks! It’s an amazing strap that compliments this watch and it’s history perfectly. What a bargain!
