Travel Watch Set

I’m setting off on another international business trip today and probably my last one for awhile. Ever since getting into watches I’ve been working on my travel set and here’s where I’ve landed for now.

(1) The Monta Skyquest for a GMT from a microbrand that I really connect with and on a bracelet that is adjustable on the fly. (2) The Glycine Airman Base 22 GA with a jumping hour hand for flying and the Hirsch James strap for the leather look while the rubber underneath keeps me from sweating all over the strap. (3)The Sinn 858 UTC TESTAF for adventure on a sailcloth strap that works for everything. (4)The Ball Trainmaster Worldtimer for when I’m trying to dress things up a little.

I’m liking how this set has come together for now with three different ways for tracking multiple time zones represented. What watches do you travel with?

Looks like a nice selection and a must to add that extra panache to your travels! I used to do a lot more travel myself, but I am out of it now.

Enjoy, and safe travels!

I usually just grab a handful that I fancy on the day I'm leaving.

If I'm on business then I make sure I've packed one that's unobtrusive and inexpensive like the Nordgreen Philosopher - I wouldn't want clients to think they're being overcharged! When I'm not with clients then anything else.

If we're on a cruise then I make sure I've got some dress watches for the evening to slip under dress shirts. During the day anything goes. If we're likely to be on a beach then I'll pack a Vostok.

I had not heard of Monta until I saw this post. I like it.

The Breitling Navitimer GMT (B04) is the most underrated travel watch for international travel.

Image

First, the B04 movement was made by the same engineer who designed the in-house Rolex Daytona movement... and he IMPROVED on the column wheel + vertical clutch movement with the B01/B04. The B04 is also traveler GMT movement, so it's literally like having a Daytona and a GMT Master II in the same watch.

But wait... there's more!

For international travel, you don't just need to know the time back home... you also need to know how much you are spending at any given time. The slide rule converts foreign currency to USD!

Just use the red base 10 for the reference (at the time, it was roughly £1‎ GPB = $1.23 USD)

Image

So then if you were having lunch with a client and wanted to know whether you were in the company expense policy, when the check comes for £55... you can see without even having to think about doing mental math, that you're spending $67.

^ I accidentally reversed USD and GBP in this annotation, but you get the idea... black side is British Pounds, white side is USD. Set it once, and be within compliance for your entire trip!

I can't believe that more international business people aren't flocking to the Navitimer GMT for the traveler GMT, vertical clutch chronograph for timing presentation/pitch deck segments, and instant currency conversion.
