I love submarines so my wife bought me a Vostok Komandirskie with a submarine on the dial. I had never owned a mechanical watch before, but there was something about the heart beat and sweeping second hand that made me go wait... I really like this.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
My dad got me a Timex that taught you how to read time when I was 9. I scraped the acrylic running it down the wall in the hallway.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Not really. I owned a Casio databank when I was 11. The strap broke playing four square. Then I had a Timex indiglo in highschool. I had a pocket watch too. But after I got a flip phone I stopped wearing them.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Let it soak, don't impulse buy. Wait a few weeks, you still dig it, get it.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Asian brands. Some indie stuff too. Loriet Neptune sure is pretty, something about a 60's style diver.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I have two young kids. I have some 200$ watches and below. Maybe I'll spring for something around 500$. But anything more then that just seems wasteful for my personal taste. Ooh those Sinn watches sure are nice though too.....
