GG-W-113 Restoration Progress

A few weeks ago I posted my GG-W-113 eBay find and Watch Restoration Project.

I'm waiting on some parts for my other restoration project, a Seiko Baby Monaco, so I decided to do a little work on this Hamilton GG-W-113 today. The first issue with this watch is it was missing a Crown. After doing a little research I found out these watches use something called a Slip Crown (at least that's what the YouTube Guy called it). So instead of a normal stem this has a little male connector on the movement that a female stem connector clicks on to. Seems like a bad design to me and likely why the Crown was missing. Anyway, I could not find a prefab Crown and Female Stem for this watch but on Cousins UK (by far the cheapest watch part place I've found) I could order a Female Stem Extension for an Omega and box of assorted Crowns.

These arrived yesterday and with a little measuring and trimming I was able to make a Crown and Stem that fit. Once I did that the watch wound so I threw it on the Timegrapher and was surprised to see this movement is running not that bad. Its a bit all over but settles in around -16sec to -20 secs a day. I think all it will need is a cleaning a some fresh oil.

The bad news is when I removed the hands most of the lume fell off and the second hand pinion decided to stay in the cannon pinion. So this weekend I'm going to take a stab at re-luming the hands.

My wife does not understand how I find this enjoyable lol
