I don't really know, I have some with and without and while swimming in our pool I've used both with no problem, however ocean and depth I would say yes it is a neccessity.

I’ve always had a timex and have about 25 different types in my collection some being the very first compass watch they ever made and the later ones that have time, temp, compass, tide.

I’ve just always enjoyed wearing a watch. Maybe I grew up in another era that watches were the way you knew what tone it was. I also enjoy all different types and styles. I have several timex with 4 complications all analog and I have several that are ProTreks that have quad sensors and are mechanical and digital together. I’m an outdoors man and my watches are my tools. Plus all of mine are great conversation starters for people that don’t know that much about all types of watches.

Wow that’s a testament to these low cost highly produced watches back in the day. That’s awesome you found it.

As I’m sure he was sincere I would keep it as a great remembrance of such a kind soul he was.
