Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I’ve always been drawn to special/rare/collectible “things” (coins, comics, gems, precious metals, exotic cars, fine wine, etc.). At about age 10 when my Grandfather (very much not a watch collector) got a Rolex as a milestone of career achievement, I was fascinated and hooked. I instantly started saving and at age 13, bought my first nice watch, a Tag Heuer. I was stoked, but as most of you can understand, that wasn’t enough. I started saving again, mowing lawns, pulling weeds, doing any odd job I could and at age 15, bought an Omega Seamaster (they were $1,695 back then). Here I am now, many years later and all these noobs (sarcasm) are now into my hobby! 😜 Seriously though, it’s been fun to watch the evolution of the hobby and feel far less like a weirdo now that watch collecting is so mainstream and respected.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

My first watches were plastic digital watches from Target. My first nice watch was a Tag Heuer.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Of course, but my stories are best for in-person.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Be patient, save up, don’t buy crap….and ALWAYS try on your wrist before buying!

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

While I currently could never afford one, I love independent brands that are doing incredible movement finishing. Lang & Heyne, Pascal Coyon, Keaton Myrick….stuff like that that just makes you drool.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I don’t believe in grail watches.
