PRX Hype Leads Cheap Man to Buy Something Else!

The PRX hype was unavoidable! I watched countless YouTube videos and went into an AD two times to try on the 40mm and 35mm. I was inandated with instagram content, beautiful wrist rolls, and fun colors and dials to chose from.

But when I tried them all on it only disappointed me. It didn’t fit right on my wrist, felt and looked cheaper in person than on camera, and I felt like an imposter trying to wear that watch.

In a Watch Finder Co. video, I discovered this Accurist. Could I wear something off the beaten path that looks as cool and actually wears well on my wrist?

Well, maybe. It is def cheap. But it has Japanese quartz, waffle dial, sapphire crystal, and that integrated bracelet. I got this for a little over $100!

But I still made a mistake. I bought something because the media I was consuming was telling me to buy it! This watch isn’t me, it looks strange on me and I regret the purchase.

Has this happened to any of you? The hype gets the better of you? Or has this even happened with a grail? You save up, go in and try it on and it doesn’t live up to your expectations?

I learned two lessons here, cheaper isn’t better, and unfortunately, sometimes a regretful decision helps you figure out what you like and don’t like way more than what your eyes ogle over in the feed.

There was a recent post about how many of your watch purchases were influenced by social media. I have the PRX and CasiOak so yeah, I've been influenced as well. The last couple years of the Dark Times has seen the peak Watch Hype and it's easy to get caught up in it since that's what we're consuming all the time.

Tudor Black Bay for me. Watching all the usual YT shills change their position on the PRX in recent months has made me unsubscribe from most. Andrew Morgan is the worst while Teddy coincidentally only loves what he sells or is about to sell.

I think that’s the part of the experience. We have to be much wiser especially the youtube channels conditioning that we need this specific watch. Learned from it, happy to say i haven’t bought a watch this year.

I used to be all about tritium, and after realizing my watches won't have lume after 25 years, was enough to keep me at bay now.

·

Yes I’ve had that experience with all Tissot watches.

Many Seikos. Alpinist was an exception.

Omega have all looked much better in person.

Rolex Sub was very disappointing.

Well said! Thanks for relating to me, I feel a little less silly now!

That is perfectly said. I’m about my first year into this renewed obsession, and I’m glad I’m learning this lesson now.

I think you just inspired me to make that a goal for myself! No new watches for a whole year!

We’re all in this together. No one is immune.

I was a little boy in the 70's and this whole integrated bracelet in indeed 70's but the look is actualy early 80's and the square/flat look is AN INTERPRETATION.... A TAKE OF the 70's but in reality in the 70's the cases were not so square and flat.. they were round and UFO/Tonneau style..... I love my PRX it's exagerrated. It's Jewelry
