A friend of mine shared his passion for watches and dragged me into it. Oh my, was I in for a treat!
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first ever watch i owned were a quartz yellow M&M watch that was bought on a Spanish airport when i was about 7 years old. The first mechanical watch I owned was none other than the Seiko SKX009.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I have more than one watch in my collection that has a interesting story, but my favorite must be the watch i inherited from my grandfather. It was about two years after i started collecting that i decided to ask him if he had any watches he didn't use and wanted to give me. He was a retired janitor and the watch he gave me was used for everything despite it being a more slim and dressed out Certina with a bullseye mother of pearl dial. It used a manual wound mechanical movement and didn't wind at all when i got it. I decided to send it in for repair and I'm really happy i did, because now it works like a charm. After my grandfather passed away and using the watch in his funeral, i mostly use it for special events and occasions. It gives me a really good feeling using it, reminding me of all the great times we had.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
If you're considering buying yourself a new watch, always visit your local AD, watchmaker or someone who owns the watch you're thinking of buying and try it. You never know how a watch really looks before it's on your wrist!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
That's a hard question to answer as I've been giving a lot of brands my attention lately. If i were to answer it, it would be microbrands in general.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
My grail watch is most definitely a Jeager LeCoultre Reverso. It's a timeless piece from a brand with a lot of rich history and i really respect everything they've done throughout the years of watchmaking.
