New Strap! And some opinions….

I think that lorier makes watches that can actually be called “inspired” by other watches! Thoughts?

Yup.

Love how they even go as far to show which exact three historical watches inspired each design. 🤘🏻🤙🏻👌🏻

Lorier make homage watches in the true sense of the word

One of the very few actual homage brands out there: (1) they are not only transparent about the references they're paying homage to, they're proud of it, (2) it's never one single piece of inspiration that goes into a specific model and (3) each of their watches still retains a strong design language that's unique to Lorier. Makes them one of my favorite micros.

If you're spec shopping, then Lorier and many other vintage inspired brands, might not be for you. You can buy a perfectly good watch for $200 with a Japanese movement, 100m or more WR and sapphire crystal in many places.

I just did a whole post about crystals:

Modern Vintage Watches...crystal matters | WatchCrunch

Not just Seiko, a lot of brands get flack for even using mineral crystal, it's seen as the worst of all 3 options by some.

I don't think anyone gets a free pass though. I'm sure Lorier gets tired of answering this very question over and over. But again, no watch costs the sum of its parts, they cost what brands can push people to pay to make the profit they're aiming for.

I love that they "cite" their sources of inspiration on their website. Most if not all the other "homages" are just straight-up plagiarism.

You need to look at what each option delivers. Mineral gets considered a cost-cutting measure 99 times out of 100 because it does not offer anything aesthetically/stylistically different from the sapphire. In contrast, the use of acrylic these days is more of a conscious, stylistic choice than anything else. I have looked at many great domed/boxed sapphire crystals, even the Oris diver 65 (which has a gorgeous box and domed sapphire that some considers to be the best currently on the market) does not match the curvature (especially on the underside) and texture that acrylic offers. Same with ceramic bezels. I hate to name brands, but the brand that comes to mind every time when these topics gets brought up is Islander. Ceramic bezel on all their models while contributing positively style-wise to barely any.
