Looking for ‘water capable’ watch like my Hamilton khaki field!

I recently went through a long process to find my first ‘big boy watch’. After months of obsession and looking, I purchased a new Speedmaster which I absolutely love. It’s a great watch, but I knew I needed something to compliment it but had no idea what was next.

I coincidentally had a gift certificate to Nordstrom and since I didn’t need anything thought it would be fun to get a random watch just for the heck of it to start adding to my beginning collection. I purchased the Hamilton khaki field thinking it would just be a fun ‘classic’ watch to have on hand but would probably keep it in the box.

But man I was wrong. I fully enjoy the smaller size, the thinner case and all round capability it provides. I find myself wearing it often and makes me realize I would like to have a watch with the same language but that is capabale of going underwater (not crazy depths, but still something I wouldn’t want to worry about).

Ideally this would not be a ‘dive’ style watch.

I would love if anyone has ideas for this watch, probably between $500-$3k is a good range.

Thanks a lot!

One of the Seiko Alpinist 50's reissues. Tough, small and good looking

The Longines Spirit or the Spirit Zulu Time has similar aesthetics and both 100 meters WR. Perhaps a bit over your price range? Worth taking a look at.

The new Khaki Field Expedition may be a solid choice. Same look but more WR. It's just over £1k

Bingo. 10 bar/100m WR in a nice, neat, compact, field package. The price is right too. Comes in 41mm or 37mm. This is the Goldilocks WR that should be able to handle 99.9% of users needs.

I recommended a good thing!!! Maybe I'll get the hang of this yet😂

This was exactly my situation. I value water resistance over almost anything in any tool, and I'm obsessed with the tool watch aesthetic. I went for the Serica 4512. Takes inspiration on the dirty dozen, makes it elegant and well built, from an independent brand i respect a lot, with 200m of water resistance. They are discontinuing it for a new field watch, but something like this may suit you.

Tissot PRX would be a different look. Picked a new one up last week for $191.

If you like the language of the watch, the easiest choice would be to go for a Khaki Automatic with 100 m of WR. But other cool choices may be a Seiko 5 from the SRPE line, or if you want something a bit more premium without breaking the bank look into Christopher Ward for a Dune or a Sealander 👍🏼

I just got a Longines Spirt from a grey market dealer for $1400usd. It still had all the plastic on it. Great watch!

Christopher ward has a few that are similar sized all water resistant to 150m.

Cranwell with Arabic numerals

Sealander Baton's

Dune dots

Tudor Blackbay 36 ETA version with the Smiley face. 150m wr

Or if you are happy with 100m Weiss field watch or orient original flight or if you can handle date and day Damasko DA36

Fantastic photos of the Hamilton. What is the strap you’ve got on it?
