DAMASKO DK30

The Damasko DK30 is a modern interpretation of the Flieger pilot watch genre.

The Barbing-based brand (in Bavaria) was founded 24 years ago and is still family owned.

The DK30 offers modern lines. Teutonic, somewhat brutalist and also minimalist, yet the highlights are legibility and performance, not style.

The case is made from "austenitic" submarine steel, with all the external surfaces hardened. Its most notable feature, though, is ductility, making it perfect for withstanding blows.

It is 39 mm wide by 9.95 mm thick. Its length (“lug-to-lug”) is 48 mm and it has 20 mm between the lugs. The proportions are great and the size extremely versatile. Due to the thin bezel and the large dial, it wears somewhat larger once on the wrist.

The case is simple and utilitarian, with well-defined encounters between the planes, but without any decorative bevelling. The pronounced narrowing of the lugs stands out, along with their fall.

The signed screw-down crown is protected by small crown guards. Its ribbed finish and good size make it easy to use.

The threaded display case back (with a Viton® gasket) has a sapphire crystal. It allows us to contemplate the manufacture caliber A26-1 with a double balance bridge and a decorated rotor. Its precision is +4 seconds/day.

The dial of this three-hand watch is stripped back to the bare minimum, emphasizing legibility. The luminescence (Super-LumiNova X1 GL C1 White 10) is top notch.

Above it rests a flat sapphire with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

The watch offers 200 m of water resistance.

This timepiece is fitted with a thick, vintage-style brown leather strap, one of the standard options available. It adds a touch of warmth to this cold design. A bracelet, crafted and finished like the case, is offered for €540 more.

The watch costs €1,400 plus €50 shipping to the EU.

Although it is a considerable amount, it seems very aligned with the specifications, features and finishing of this watch.

The DK30 is a compelling watch, offering a distinctive design that delivers great performance.

If you are looking for a modern day Flieger, it should be on your list of potential candidates.

Just a borrow for the review... Unfortunately... I mostly collect aviation themed timepieces, so it will be a big shame when I have to return it next week.

Thank you for the review. I enjoyed all the pictures in your article also.

As someone who doesn't 'get' the appeal of Sinn, I have to say there is something deeply appealing about this dial. It's as if some kind of golden ratio has been adhered to and this really simple dial just seems to suck me in. Love it 👍

Damasko & Sinn = top tier design

I have the predecessor, the DS30. The DS30/DK3X is in my mind the perfect "everyday" tool watch, because of the scratch resistance, WR, and thinness.

I'm mightily impressed with it. It wears bigger than the 39 mm, so perfect for me. Sadly, a loaner for the review. 😭

Love the desciption as "cold" for the bold but simple design of these German tool watches. Great review.

I like a lot about this watch except the fact that I find it to be very ugly.

I totally agree. I also have the DS30 and I wear it everyday. My profession is rather casual and I hardly ever wear a suit - for me, it’s the perfect everyday.

the review is spot-on that it wears larger than the 39mm suggests due to the lug span and the thin bezel. I still really like mine, but if they made a 36mm or 37mm if this, I’d be sold in a heartbeat!
