Vostok watches make up the majority of my watch collection. They obv won’t be competing against any high-end watches, but they don’t need to. They are a very unique, quirky niche in the watch world and have a long, rich history. I discovered this brand right about the time the world shut down due to COVID, and had to wait several months for my first watch to arrive. When it did though, I was immediately hooked. For an inexpensive, automatic watch I am impressed with its level of accuracy; after I got used to the non-quickset date feature and the factory’s shortcut method I don’t even mind the date models now. Someone spoke earlier about the brass cases, I typically see this in the lower-end manual wind Komandirskie watches. The Amphibia or automatic Komandirskies seem to be built with higher quality parts and don’t end up leaving a nasty green/black place on my wrist after wearing it! They are highly customizable, which makes them a favorite among the modding community as well. Overall, you get a decent, unique timepiece for not a lot of money. As long as you don’t buy one expecting a Rolex/Omega/Tudor quality watch, you’ll not be disappointed.
They’re definitely quirky little watches, but when I bought mine, they were very reasonable for a mechanical watch and so many designs to choose from! Hopefully one day things will improve and we will be able to get them from Russia again, but for now it’s drastically curtailed my watch purchasing. There are US sellers, but they have a limited supply and charge almost double what it cost in Roubles even with conversion rates!
Thank you so much! The blue one is what was referred to as the “Luna Dude”. It was a concept designed by Ole Dokka in one of the Vostok groups. It nearly made it to full production with most of the parts being produced, however Meranom pulled the plug right before. I was lucky enough to purchase a donor watch (a Neptune) and have Meranom swap all the parts over before they shipped me the watch. Now, all the parts are NLA and the few assembled pieces are selling on eBay for STUPID money! The watch was initially intended to sell for under $200…..I’ve seen going for close to $800! I really appreciate the comments, I have a very eclectic taste, but I enjoy every watch I have!!
I wouldn’t mind to have one myself, I'm kind of digging that Pluto watch, but this puts the nail in the coffin for me. The nearest store is several hundred miles away, and I refuse to pay the overinflated prices I’m seeing online for them…..so I guess no moonswatch for me!
I’m really excited to join a group of watch enthusiasts who aren’t going to criticize someone for having a collection of quirky, inexpensive watches....
