The Mondaine 175
I always wanted a Mondaine watch since moving to Switzerland. The design of the face and hands is engrained into my mind as you see this face in every train station around the country
The issue with Mondaine was that the automatic versions of their watches they tried to make look more elegant and refined by rounding off the cases which didn’t look right design wise for me.
I wouldn’t normally have gone for a quartz version of the watch but this was a “vintage looking” limited 175 year anniversary edition (81/175) and I’m a sucker for a sterile dial.
It’s one of the cheaper watches in my collection but I get asked about it every time I wear it because the colour isn’t what you would normally see here.
Three things that would have made this perfect for me would have been:
Better water resistence (it’s only 3atm)
Automatic or hand wound movement instead of quartz
Lume… yes there is none, not even the underside of the hands like other Mondaine watches
Land, sea and air… I love military and tool watches with high legibility and have a thing for lume
Mondaine has never really been my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal and the design seems to be growing on me. I'd like to get a Mondaine alarm- or wall clock. Very legible, I imagine.

I do love a black Mondaine… this must be one of the only watches that can pull of a red strap so easily!
