Everyone is raising prices [or] A case for impulse purchase

Hey all ๐Ÿ‘‹

This is my first post here after some weeks of interested observation, but I wanted to share something I've just went through.

I don't know if you all saw it already, but starting today a lot of our most beloved brands have raised their prices (again!): Sinn, CW, ...

So... last Thursday, while walking around with some time and no kids around, I saw a U50 SDR in our local AD and thought this was a good chance to try it out. I was infected only a couple of months ago by the "Watch-Maniac-Virus", but had an eye on this Sinn for a while now. Oh boy, what an amazing watch... You know it's a perfect one as soon as you touch it, pretty sure you all went through this already.

Anyway: the dealer offered it with 3% discount on the list price and told me, Sinn would be raising prices on Saturday, April 1st. Culturally speaking, handling in Germany usually doesn't leave place for a lot of negotiation, so the discount did sound quite reasonable. But to be honest, I had my doubts if the "raising prices on Saturday" wasn't just a Bluff to make me buy it - for instance, as the seller wasn't aware of the U50 and misunderstood it with the U1.

I left the store and the watch there, thought about it quite a lot on Friday, but decided not to take it. The watch does fit my budget, but we do have quite a lot of other more important expenses coming down the next few months.

But yeah... now it costs 10% more than I would have payed for it ๐Ÿ˜‚

What's the lesson? No lesson at all, but maybe just go for it next time! Or not, perhaps it was the right choice indeed.

I wonder if you have similar stories on this.

Ask some Rolex owners how many more Rolex they would have bought in 2017 if they knew about the madness of the past few years.

Welcome to the club, first of all! Secondly, have you looked at sites like Chrono24 to see what sort of prices that particular model is commanding on the secondary market? It may well be less than retail.

When Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel back in time to buy every Rolex they can find . . .

Thank you! Chrono 24 does show a bit better price, thanks for the tip.
