That is a good point.  The one I tried was the blue dial BB58 with the bracelet.  Honestly, I wanted to like the watch and was ready to buy it if it grabbed me enough but the experience on wrist and in hand was rather underwhelming.  Might be potentially different if on a nice strap.  I still maintain the Speedy comes across much more substantial and the Speedy’s new bracelet is fantastic.  Enjoy your watches in good health!

How would service including periodic maintenance work for these higher end Seikos?  Do they go to Japan?  Does anyone have any experience?  Thanks!

I often see all variations of the BB58 in stock these days as well as the Pelagos at the AD ready for sale.  Not at all hard to come by.  I did spend some time with the BB58 blue with the bracelet.    And this might sound a bit harsh as I know there are a lot of fans but the watch just felt chintzy and cheap on wrist.  By contrast, a current gen Sub or Speedy feels so much more substantial and has a palpable sense of quality radiating from them.

The BB58 sort of reminded me of the Oris 65 diver in some ways but I thought the Oris had much more character.  The BB58 is a watch a lot of YouTube influencers pick up but usually the follow up video titled “I Sold my BB58!!!” is not far behind. However, if it works for you then ultimately that is all that matters!

4,800 A/m is not very impressive.  To put that in context Omega’s metas movements is resistant to 15,000 gauss.  1 gauss = approx 80 A/m.  So the latest Speedy will be around 1,200,000 A/m compared to Ball, GS, and a lot of other manufacturers touting 4,800 A/m (60 gauss).  While it is not inaccurate it might give the average person a false sense of assurance.

Often discussed topic but no real clear answer.  Use your watches as they fit your lifestyle  and needs; when they stop keeping accurate time consider servicing is what I abide by.
