Intro Post

Hello! My name is Cameron. I am 21 years old, and I live on Long Island, which is basically everything east of New York City. Apart from watches, I love music, literature, writing, cars, gaming, and anime/manga. I'm currently studying journalism at my college, and I hope to be a journalist, copy editor or some sort of professional writer.

Given that I'm a broke college student, all but one of my watches are entry level, with my favorite brands being Vostok, Brew, Orient, Seiko, Timex, Tissot, and Bulova. This also means that basically every review I put out will be about an affordable watch. As much as I love the Cartier Pasha and the Grand Seiko SBGA223, I don't have enough money to buy them.

I originally started reviewing watches on Instagram (@ofquartz_watches) because, as a journalist, I felt that outlets like Hodinkee spew too much unsubstantiated, unobjective bullshit that are merely advertisements for big brand watch companies who don't know to to market to The Youth™. Like, what sort of sane person would claim a $20k Patek Phillippe Calatrava is an "affordable" watch that the average watch enthusiast should own?

As such, all the watches I review I have bought with my own money, or were gifted to me by my loved ones; none of them have been sent to me for free from a watchmaker, nor have I done (or will ever do) a positive review for a free watch.

I also tend to be a bit more biting in my criticism, a skill I feel is sorely lacking in most respectable watch influencers. Sure, I love TGV from The Urban Gentry and Jody from Just One More Watch, but sometimes I feel people are too clean cut and professional, and tend to take themselves too seriously. As someone who points squarely at Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as their main influences for going into journalism, you can see why my reviews are written the way they are. That isn't to say that I'm trying to copy those guys; when a grade or peoples' feelings aren't on the line, I tend to write in the same way I do in my reviews. As such, if you love the stuff those three great men have made, you'll be right at home with my page.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you stick around for my future content!
