Funniest reason you bought a watch?
One watch out of my entire collection was ordered simply out of humor. Let me explain.
I was browsing Amazon out of boredom at a family gathering. You know those kinds that you're forced to go to, even though you don't say more than five words and could be doing anything else that would be more productive - aka the conference call of family events.
Anyway, I decided to peruse watches and during one of my Casio searches, I came across the W800H. Not a particularly good looking watch. Actually, so kind of bland that it's nicknamed "The Grey Man." It blends in and is forgotten the instant its seen.
Certainly, there are far more aesthetically pleasing watches in the sub $25 price range. However, there was one question in the Q&A section that caught my eye.
"Is this watch vegan?"
Those four words caused me to click to see the answers. Being a carnivore and growing up in a household steeped in sarcastic humor, I know my response would have been humorous. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find most of the thread to be in the same vein.
If you snoop around on Amazon in years past, you could find quite humorous reviews on silly products. Yet, in the past couple of years this became rare as Amazon deleted reviews, removed products, or outright made some sections (like reviews) near-impossible to see. Unfortunately, this Q&A thread was one such thing that seemingly vanished (though can still be found with some work last I checked).
Anyway, here were a few responses from other people on the thread that got me to laugh enough to know I wanted the W800H in my collection, so I can have a small chuckle now and again looking at the watch.
What's the funniest reason you've bought a watch?
Submitted for your approval, a man and the watches he wears in... the twilight zone.
Bought my Dad an old quartz Aqua Terra for Christmas a couple of years ago. He wore it for a couple of months, then decided it was too "posh" for him and he wanted to sell it. Needless to say I bought it back from him . So I ended up buying the same watch twice!! 🤣
To be fair, he put the cash towards a car for my Mrs, bless him 👍🏻
I got the Snapple watch just to goof on the Apple watch by saying I had a Snapple watch.
I bought this Gold A-700 because it was tacky and fun, but also because my wife said that she hated it when I showed her a picture. In person, she hated it more 😂
I bought an f91w twice, because the first time I bought it I thought I’d mess around and get it on a nato, springbar removal was a pain, and I actually lost one of the springbars, which sadly aren’t regular old springbars but something more proprietary, seeing that I basically destroyed the watch strap, and the cost of a strap or springbars was equivalent to that of a brand new watch, I just bought the same watch again 🤡🤣

Haha, those F91s can be tricky like that. I recently found my old F91 that the strap had broken off and did a strap replacement. Those spring bars can be difficult, especially when it's an old watch. I did find a cheap strap similar to the A158, in black and used that, but did hold on to the original spring bars.
There was a whole process of having to hunt down a photo of an F91 from behind so I could figure out which way the spring bars were meant to go.
I had a thirteen watch collection very briefly; and being the triskaidekaphobe I am, immediately rushed out and bought a £20 casio. 😀
$7 bucks from China can’t wait to see my girlfriend reaction 😁

It is a good one. The band in my situation cost under $3 and was far cheaper than buying a whole new F91 that would have a broken band within a year. This was my result.

Well, when you hit 169 watches, you'll need to get one more as you'll have 13 groups of 13 watches.
It is a good one. The band in my situation cost under $3 and was far cheaper than buying a whole new F91 that would have a broken band within a year. This was my result.
