HMT watches

My friend wants to buy a HMT watch. He asked me for advice and choose one of the three HMT watches he picked out. I am unaware of this brand so can someone help me out here ?

Indian Casio, but we have a couple of crunchers who are way more familiar with the topic. Haven’t heard anything negative about them.

Why not just buy a Casio instead

I have 6 and they all work well. For the money, brilliant.

Good luck and happy new year.

Why do you have 6 of them ? Are they that great? You could of just saved up and bought like a decent seiko instead and have like 2 or 3 HMT

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I think they look good and also doubt the Indian 'Citizen' movement in them is inferior to a Seiko in terms of timekeeping. They all keep within a few seconds a day. They are cheap and simple to work on too. Total cost of the 6 was under £50. Far removed from a 'decent' Seiko. I have Seiko's. Around 25 off the top off my head including some vintage. None of them give me more wrist enjoyment than my humble HMT's.

Are we talking new or used?

Beware Mumbai specials. They can be hit or miss. And as far as new or used. Unless you find a NOS, they'll all be used. I think HMT closed their doors in the early 2000's. They definitely have some nice dials. They used modified Citizen movements. Nowadays, they're cobbled together parts watches coming out of India. If you're looking on Ebay, more than likely it's one of these "specials". I've had some that worked well. I had 1 that lost 10 minutes a day. Good luck. I hope he enjoys the one he picks.
