Birth year watches: 1979 and 2010

Wondering what you Crunchies think are good birth year watches for 1979 and 2010, me and my son. Is there something new/upgraded/discontinued/iconic to those specific years?

1979: I got nothing!

2010: I was thinking about a 114270 or 214270 since the Explorer size changed in 2010 but I’m not a big fan of the Mark I.

Please share your ideas, just keep them under 41mm wide.

49ers, watches, 79… did we just become best friends?

Interesting read, the 70s were tough for watches 😞

I realised that my son (born in April this year) will never struggle for a birth year watch… he can choose from the 9 added this year 😂😂😂🥲🥲😭😭

You can use the settings on Chrono24 to look at all the listings of watches made in a single year. Might give you ideas, even if you didn’t want to buy it on that site.

Yeah I’ll try it again. The 70s are rough…

78 here. Have considered Heuer Monnin 844 and Omega Seamaster 120 ‘Baby Ploprof’.

·

77 here, 49ers as well. Seems like the gauntlet has been thrown. Let the search begin (tomorrow morning with coffee because I'm already up past my bedtime).

Can’t wait to hear what you find!

79 here. I’d go for the Carrera if, like me, you went to a high school where all the rich kids were flashing some kind of Tag Heuer.

Man I can smell CK1 cologne just thinking of those days…

What’s the price range you were looking at?

Probably under $2k for 79. Under $6k for 2010.

True but I noted one particular line that may give you something to look for as far as birth year watches are concerned:

1979: Rolex discontinues the Submariner Date ref. 1680

Yup that would be awesome but $10k…
