1918 Oversized Elgin Trench Watch. Today I have my huge 6s sized trench watch with shrapnel guard. The larger 6s sized, fixed wire lug, Philadelphia cases with original oversized crowns are getting incredibly hard to find. This example also comes complete with an original Duo By Mealy shrapnel guard in fantastic condition. I was also very lucky to find that this watch also has factory hands and a factory drilled lume reservoir enamel dial. I absolutely adore this watch. 100% original and 100% gorgeous.

Amazing. How oversized is “oversized”? Are those radium pips and hands? Very cool, especially the shrapnel guard

So most trench watches from the WWI were powered by 3/0 (~28mm) and 0s (~29.7mm) sized watch movements. These larger 6s sized movements are about 35mm and are cased in large 38mm cases that really make them comparable to many modern day wrist watches in terms of size.

The dial and hands have the original lume wells but I have removed all the radium and re-lumed the watch with some super bright C3 lume, color matched to the original decayed radium color.
