small wrist, big watch box cushion. will it harm your straps/bracelet?

hello guys,

long story short. i bought watch box with fixed size cushions (the cushion feels kinda stiff) and i store a bracelet watch wrapping into the cushion.
the watch have 2 way opening clasp 1 full and 1 just gives extra room around 1cm. the way i store it, i set free the full deployant clasp but sets the extra room deployant open on the other side. (but kinda forcing the watch to clicks tho)

a year or so, i took out the watch, and notice the cushion have the watch shape molds into the cushion and i feel the links kinda loosen up a bit. the watch is Tag Heuer Formula 1 quarts.

Having a stiff big cushion also makes use another hole i usually use on straps. Having a visible worn strap hole makes me uncomfortable.

Do you think the cushion was the probable cause or maybe the watch's bracelet was already loosen before i store?
Does anyone ever experienced this too?

How important for us to have adjustable cushion size for storing?
Does the softness is more important than the size?
is it normal to have that stiff cushion or u think the quality is just bad on this box?

I have replaced most of the stock cushions with small, soft pillows.

Fellow small wrist (sufferer?) here. With my watches, if it's on a metal bracelet I just leave it loose so the bracelet dangles underneath (which isn't an issue because the bracelet is short enough not to reach the bottom). For all other straps (except NATO) I feed the long strap into the bands of the shorter strap. As can be seen below.

Great advice from Crazyblue. I do think the too large cushions could be the problem. I use cases with soft pillows, but like his solution.
