I own a few and I often wonder exactly how people view homage watches. I own then because I know there’s no chance of owning certain pieces so I look for others that hold the same look and feel. I don’t care if that’s bad or good but I wonder what others think?
Given how many watches I lust after that I can't afford, either in the original vintage or in reissue form, I would be very sad if there were no homages in the world. I've got plenty of originals, but there are a few homages that I've got in my collection that make me very happy and serve my collecting interests extremely well. I'll never disrespect a well made and reliably powered homage!
First we should address the elephant in the room and differentiate real homages from "homages" better described as direct design copies.
I'm all for true homages and have no issues with direct design copies that would be the true mater of the discussion. They play a role that pretty much depends on people but for me it is a good way to test drive certain design and concepts.
On the other hand, true homages like the Traska Summiteer, Lorier Neptune or Christopher Ward Sealanders are very much watches of their own that play true tribute to one or more well know models.

I've got two, one because the original isn't worth the £ (in my eyes), and the other to see if I still enjoy it after I've had it for a while.

For me I like some iconic styles but I’m never paying 40k for a watch because I can barely afford bread haha

Not pointless, but the line between homage and a more or less direct copy is pretty thin

Homages serve a purpose, IMHO. Exposition here: https://www.watchcrunch.com/JBird7986/posts/nwa-the-other-other-moonswatch-alternative-the-speedmaster-homage-by-phylida-20315
