Watch cleaning day (how to)

Hey All,

Today was watch cleaning day, but I thought I would also do a how to on how I clean my watches. Feel free to post your method in the comments.

Step 1: Gather your materials

You will need: a bowl with lukewarm tap water, dish soap, an old tooth brush, your watch (strap removed), leather cleaner (for straps, I use some leather cleaner I use in my car), leather conditioner, and a couple microfiber towels.

Step 2: Make sure your screw down crowns are fully closed. Add a couple drops of dish soap to the water and dunk the watch in the bowl. Agitate the dirt/ grime with the tooth brush. Rinse under a low water stream from the tap.

Step 3: Dry thoroughly with the microfiber towel. Set it aside to continue air drying as you clean your other watches. Repeat process for every piece in your collection.

All clean!

Step 4: Clean your straps. While your watches are drying, clean your straps. If your watch is on a bracelet, clean the it when you clean the watch, dry thoroughly and set aside. If you have a rubber strap, clean with the dish soap and toothbrush, rinse, and let dry. For leather straps, use a leather cleaner and the toothbrush to agitate and clean grime.

Dry with another microfiber towel, and then condition both sides with a leather conditioner. I really like this leather conditioner because it doesn’t feel greasy and it doesn’t darken the appearance. Once applied, buff the excess off with a microfiber.

There ya go! Those are my steps for keeping your watches clean. I do this about once every 1-2 months.

Nothing better than a clean collection! I usually let everything dry overnight before putting back into my watch case.

Let me know what you all think, or if you have other methods you use. Side note, I found that this method removed most of my patina from my Bronze case watch, so if you don’t want to remove that I would recommend just using a dry cloth.

Kind of depends how grimy they get. Usually every 1-2 months. Probably once a month in the summer and once every two months in the winter
