The Reverso’s swiveling face was originally designed to withstand a polo match by flipping the watch face over to protect the dial and glass. The blank face served as a shield and also a surface where owners can engrave their initials for customization.

So I absolutely love the Reverso! Specifically the dual face. The mono face designs are amazing, but I’m not sure the flip feature on the mono faces serve a purpose any more. I’ve been wondering this of late.

On Saturday, my 14-year-old and I looked at a Jaeger-LeCoultre showcase. He was puzzled by a half-flipped Reverso, so I guided him to look in the mirror behind it, where he saw a face in a different colour and design. I told him the story of the Reverso's polo origins, and we discussed how the watch could be adapted to different occasions, from dressy to casual.
He was impressed by the Reverso's technical ingenuity, but he didn't like Jaeger-LeCoultre's overall design aesthetic.

Agreed, the monoface is a thinner/smaller and looks more elegant than duo face. It would be cool to have an openback to see the movement on the wrist though.

Agree, there are a few open-back Reverso’s, I think that’s another good use of the flip!
